For many years, the UNIVERSITY OF LIEGE is very active in the field of space simulation and environmental testing of space structures. Space simulation is the main activity of the « Centre Spatial de Liege » (CSL, former IAL-Space). This research center of the University of Liege, which is also a Coordinated Facility of ESA, has developed a good expertise in the field of optical thermal vacuum testing. This main activity is completed by non-linear optics studies, non destructive optical testing and cryogenic studies. The various aspects of cleanliness, product assurance and quality control are also present at every step of a test. The « Laboratoire de Techniques Aeronautiques et Spatiales » (LTAS) of the University of Liege is widely recognized as a centre of competence for structural analysis based on the finite element method. Its expertise has given rise to the SAMCEF finite element code. LTAS also develops expertise in the field of dynamic testing for mechanical and aeronautical structures.
