One of the major problems caused by the siting of wind energy installations in Poland is the marginal importance given to the landscape assets while planning such constructions. The principal organ in each province in Poland which approves new sits for developing wind farms is the Regional Directorate of Environment Protec- tion. The directorate, however, does not ensure any guidance for analyzing the impact of wind farms on the landscape, and any possible remarks concerning the siting of a wind power installation are practically limited to the protection of avifauna and chiropterofauna. The current law allows anyone to prepare the relevant documentation, even persons who lack appropriate professional education and experience.
