EU rules to combat illegal waste shipments need to be tougher, says the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment (ENVI). MEPs adopted, on 22 January, a report by Bart Staes (Greens-EFA, Belgium) on the European Commission's proposal to update and strengthen the existing regulation -COM(2013)516. They are very critical of member states' lack of stringency in checks and inspections.
