The binding target for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, proposed by the European Commission on 22 January in its energy-climate strategy for 2030, seems to have support from all the capitals of the EU's Western bloc. Berlin, Paris, Rome and London had pushed for it in a joint letter sent to the executive on 6 January. This appeal was backed by European employers (BusinessEurope) and parts of industry, in particular the electricity sector.
