In a letter published on 28 February, the Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment (ENVI), Matthias Groote (S&D, Germany), urges the Greek Council Presidency to defend "ambitious" goals for EU climate and energy policies. On the eve of the Environment (3 March) and Energy (4 March) Councils, at which ministers will discuss proposals relating to energy and climate policies up to 2030, Groote points out that, in a resolution adopted on 5 February, the EP found the Commission's proposals to be lacking in "real ambition" and called for a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, 30% renewables in the energy mix and a 40% improvement in energy efficiency by 2030.
