摘要

Peter Liese (EPP, Germany) and the Greens group reacted in the European Parliament to China's 6 February decision to prohibit its airlines from participating in the EU's Emission Trading Scheme without the government's authorisation. Liese, who was rapporteur on the issue, and the Greens both expressed the view that the EU should negotiate but not back down."If we give in because of a €1.90 additional cost for a flight to Shanghai, this will have major implications for the credibility of the EU in other policy areas," warned Liese. Uppermost in his mind are trade and regulation of financial markets, areas where third countries like China and the United States "do not like EU legislation".
