Without challenging the need for environmentally acceptable management and treatment of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) insists, in an opinion adopted on 14 April, that data protection and privacy issues must be taken fully into account in the course of revision of Directive COM(2008)810 on waste from electrical and electronic equipment. This proposal is now in first reading (co-decision) and is set to be put to the vote in the European Parliament's Committee on Environment (ENVI) - where it is recognised that this aspect has not been raised at this stage -in June 2010.
