Hell hath no fury like a partner scorned," thought the Poetic Puss as he read the news about Siemens' launch of its UC application suite. Siemens is going open with a capital "0" with its OpenScape Unified Communications Server and related applications. That's not surprising after the bitterness Siemens expressed in October about being snubbed in the rollout of Microsoft's UC strategy. Instead, Microsoft took on Nortel as its UC partner. OpenScape used to be based solely on Microsoft's Live Communications Server. But now Siemens is seeking a broader market for the UC server. The company is integrating the server with IBM's Lotus Sametime and Microsoft's Office Communications Server, and others are sure to follow. It appears Siemens decided there was more money to be made by expanding the reach of its UC platform than by holding on to Microsoft's UC apron strings.
