There is a saying in Silicon Valley that any technology company worth its salt should have enough faith in its products to "eat its own dog food." But the Finicky Feline, who never eats anybody's dog food, knows that dictum isn't always faithfully adhered to at some companies, including apparently at Cisco Systems. Cisco has been relentlessly pushing its Telepresence product-the company's ultra-high-end, high-definition, life-size videoconferencing system-pretty hard since its introduction, with prominent placement on network TV shows such as "24." In one episode, there was a scene in which the president needed to talk urgently to the leader of a foreign country. Naturally, the president turned to TelePresence to establish a link for the discussions that averted certain disaster. Cisco has also been doing demos around the country and featuring the technology at various trade shows.
