Newfangled software at Web 2.0 conferences gets a lot of buzz and stimulates a lot of interest, but if s always good to have some financial experts on hand to bring the crowd back down to reality. During a panel discussion on monetizing applications at the Graphing Social Patterns West show March 4, Jim Scheinman, entrepreneur-in-residence at Charles River Ventures and a veteran of social networking sites Friend-ster and Bebo, shared his thoughts on the digital ad market and the economy. Scheinman offered some encouraging words, saying we are unlikely to see the kind of bubble burst that we saw from the Web 1.0 in 2000-01, when so many companies overspent and suffered from inflated stock prices.
