Linkage analysis by crossing susceptible NC/Jic and resistant 129Xl/SvJ mouse strains revealed a strong host resistance locus, designated Pymr ( Plasmodium yoelii malaria resistance locus) on Chr.9. Malaria parasites proliferated less in mice of the congenic strain possessing the Pymr region of 129Xl/SvJ on the NC/Jic background (NC.129X1- Pymr). Nonetheless, this strain exhibited delayed exclusion of malaria parasites compared with the 129X1/SvJ strain. Here, we performed linkage analysis between the NC. 129X1- Pymr and 129Xl/SvJ strains to identify the genetic locus which determined parasite exclusion.
