摘要

How have animal species changed over the last century? What once lived in the oceans that has since become extinct? What will future technologies help us learn about marine life of the past? Answers to these questions may be found in the drawers, slides, bottles, and canisters that make up the Scripps Oceanographic Collections, a resource of millions of specimens that has taken more than a century to compile. The collections contain an astounding variety of preserved marine life, fossils, sediments, and rocks, some of which were collected even before Scripps was founded in 1903.
