摘要

Binational cooperation and private support are bolstering conservation of marine biodiversity. Shortly after the Birch Aquarium at Scripps opened its doors in 1992, the aquarium started a cooperative research program involving Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) in La Paz, Mexico. In 1996 this collaboration resulted in the beginning of the Reef Fauna Project, in which the Birch Aquarium and UABCS scientists conducted research with reef species of ornamental (aquarium) value.
