摘要

The first paper of this issue by Peter Love, David Edwards, Joanne Love and Zahir Irani considers the concept of "tacit" knowledge within the context of construction projects. This problem is particularly pertinent to facilities management whereby failures and - successes need to be conveyed to various parties throughout the life of a project, including post occupancy. The idea of "communities of practice" forms the focus of attention in this paper. In the concluding section of this paper the author suggests "[...] requires commitment from senior management and clear rules of engagement. In particular, managers should listen to stories in a systematic way, provide adequate resources and infrastructure and allow them to thrive and feel that the organisation places importance on sharing knowledge." Clearly, the concept of knowledge sharing goes way beyond the question of how to encode and transfer it. This paper highlights the motivational elements of knowledge sharing as part of a project team.
