Heavy lift can be a rather vague terminology as far as ships are concerned, so in order to compare like with like, this analysis of the fleet will maintain the same parameters as it did a year ago. To refresh readers' memories, that includes all vessels in the Sea-Web database described as either a heavy-load carrier or a crane vessel, together with all general cargo ships equipped with a 250-tonne capacity or more. A year ago the fleet consisted of 238 crane ships, 140 heavy-load carriers (in service or on order), and 175 general cargo ships with a safe working load (S WL) of above 250 tonnes. Today the fleet comprises 237 crane ships, 139 heavy-load carriers, and 174 general cargo ships.
