Canadian operator Algoma Central has inked a deal with Wartsila to supply complete propulsion systems with integrated scrubbers for six Great Lakes vessels. This represents the first order for the new integrated Wartsila scrubber concept. The scrubbers are designed to clean the exhaust gases of the vessels' main and auxiliary engines as well as the oil-fired boiler. The new Equinox class ships, ordered by Algoma Central Corporation, are to be built at the Nantong Mingde HI shipyard in China. Extremely high environ- mental standards are required for their future work on the Great Lakes. The first vessel is scheduled to be delivered in the first halfof2013.
