At the forefront of environment-friendly offshore vessels, shipowner Eidesvik Offshore of Bømlo, Norway, has several LNG-powered vessels in its fleet. It took delivery of another, in the form of the LNG-powered offshore supply vessel Viking Prince, from Kleven Maritime on 30 March. Viking Prince has an overall length of 86.9m, a beam of 21m, a draught of 8m and a usable deck space of more than 1,050m2. Four LNG dual-fuel engines ensure low NOx emissions, providing a reported reduction of 85%, while CO2 emissions are much reduced when operated on LNG. The four engines comprise two Wärtsilä 6L20 units, which provide 1,080kW at 1.000rprn, and a pair of Wärtsilä 6L34DFs, which provide 2,610kW at 750rpm The next LNG vessel to be delivered from Kleven Yard is Viking Prince's sister vessel, Viking Princess, which is to be delivered in September.
