It is common knowledge that the condition of a ship's underwater coatings greatly affects performance, but determining to what extent this is the case has not always been a precise science. Performance monitoring software can be a useful device for aiding assessment since some software systems make it possible to take out individual components such as trim, speed, draught and some weather conditions, leaving the condition of the hull as the only ship-related variable remaining.
