摘要

Rwe Innogy, the renewables arm of German-owned utility RWE, ushered-in an important stage in the development of offshore construction logistics when it awarded Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering the contractfora 109m x 40m jack-up turbine installation vessel atthe end of 2009. During 2010 a sister ship was ordered, doubling the investment programme to about C200M. When the initial deal was signed, it was said that the newbuild would be able to transport and erect the largest available wind turbines, carrying four at a time and positioning each turbine using an 800-tonne crane. Landing the project has been a considerable boon to the Korean shipbuilding industry's endeavours to tap opportunities in the offshore windfarm sector. In this instance, it is using a design developed by Wartsila and its Hamburg-based partner IMS Ingenieurgesellschaft.
