Indian shipowner Great Eastern Shipping has entered into an agreement with Hyundai HI to modify an existing newbuilding contract. The Indian owner confirmed that it has replaced orders for a pair of 158,000dwt Suezmax tankers for delivery in 2012 with a trio of 318,000d wt VLCCs, for delivery in 1H12. Great Eastern said that a relative pricing benefit and increasing utilisation of VLCCs by India and China was behind the move.rnThe amended contract leaves Great Eastern with an orderbook comprising three Kamsarmax bulkers building at South KoreanyardsSTXand SPP, two Supramax bulker carriers from the Cosco Zhoushan yard in China, in addition to the two new VLCCs.
