Compliance with the rulesand regulations of flag states, ports and classification societies isvery much part of the shipbuilding industryand an inspector who checksand enforces these requirements can lead a varied working life, often called upon to deal with the unexpected and unwelcome. The inspector might have to be in the yard to understand the full implications of a finding or deficiency, which often means travelling the world to be on the spotfor the building phase of a particular vessel type or during the repair cm- refit of a ship that has reached a certain age.
