Daewoo shipbuilding in South Korea has developed a new cargo tank design which does away with the need for the installation of cross-ties inside the tanks. The Seoul-based shipbuilder has applied for a patent on the new design.rnCross-ties are installed to reduce the moments and shocks that take place due to the inevitable sloshing in ships such as VLCCs whose cargo tank height exceeds 25m. Over the years several designs and configurations of cross-ties have been used by shipbuilders.
