Shuttle tankers are something that Teekay knows all about, having been a pioneer of the concept and, with more than 30 vessels in its current fleet, owning almost half of the total number of ships of that type afloat. Any new design the company deems better suited to its task than the current fleet must be taken seriously.rnEarlier this year Teekay announced it was work-ing on a radical new design called FlexShuttle that departs from conventional practice in almost allrnrespects. Whereas the majority of shuttle tankers fall into the Aframax size bracket, the new vessel will have a cargo capacity of about one-third to half of that type.
