Austal's most revolutionary fast ferry to date was Benchijigua Express, delivered in 2005, but its 102m second-generation vessel (Austal hull 270 or Auto Express 102) has taken on that vessel's advantages and enhanced them.rnThe 6,253gt high-speed trimaran ferry was launched on 14 December last year. By incorporating lessons learnt from the success of its inaugural trimaran for Fred Olsen Lines in 2005 and the littoral combat ship USS Independence, named for the US Navy in 2008, Austal believes its latest trimaran will deliver innovation without risk. As with so many Austal vessels, the newbuilding was completed on a speculative basis with no definite owner in mind.
