Martek Marine has launched its Navgard bridge navigation watch and alarm system (BNWAS) to allow owners to fit the equipment before a rapidly approaching deadline. The equipment will be mandatory on all new passenger ships from July 2011.rnThe BNWAS equipment is designed to monitor bridge activity and detect any watchkeeper disability that could lead to a hazardous situation. The system monitors the awareness of the officer of the watch (OOW) and automatically alerts the master or another qualified OOW if for any reason the OOW becomes incapa-rnble of performing his duties.
