Many people are optimistic about the opening up of the Northern Sea Route around Russia and the North West Passage through Canadian and Alaskan waters, but, despite one or two ships making highly publicised navigations, the regular trade remains far from reality.rnAs Solutions pointed out in April, depending upon the information source chosen, Arctic ice coverage is either declining or reached a low point in 2006 and has been recovering since. As most modern systems rely on satellite data, no comparable records exist before 1978.
