New orders won by South Korean yards last year were considerably below the figures for 2007 and were described merely as "average" by the Korea Shipbuilders'Association (KSA). However, completions in the year showed an increase of around 10% in terms of ship numbers.rnAccording to the data released last month by KSA, its nine members secured 467 ships of 14M CGT in 2008, compared with 707 ships of 23.6M CGT a year earlier. Completion volume in 2008 was 376 ships of 12.5M CGT, compared with 340 ships of 10.3M CGT in 2007. The improvement in completions was attributed by KSA to new building methods and technology introduced during the year.
