Rolls-Royce was due to file its response to Carnival Corp's allegations of fraud and conspiracy over the supply of Mermaid podded propulsion systems as this issue of Solutions went to press. Carnival sued Rolls-Royce and Converteam (Alstom Power Conversion) in December for more than $100M over its allegations that the pods supplied for the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship were defective. "We believe we have a case", said Rolls-Royce's commercial executive vice-president Martin Hall following a press briefing in London. Its response documentation is nearing completion and "you can expect us to stand our corner," he added.
