Only days after recommending a set of new rules for marine diesel engines, the US Environmental Protection Agency has pulled back on deadlines for stricter controls under an earlier regulation. The EPA originally set 27 April 2007 for promulgating a second set of standards (the first was set in 2003), but the agency said it has taken longer than expected to fully grasp the technology involved.The new deadline is 17 December 2009.
