West Norwegian builder Ulstein Verft put down a marker for the industry last year with the delivery of Normand Seven. As well as being the largest ship delivered to date by the Ulsteinvik yard, the 130m Normand Seven gave added dimension to the industry's capabilities, as a state-of-the-art, pure offshore construction vessel. Embodying the VS4220 OCV design drawn up by Norwegian consultancy Vik-Sandvik, the vessel offers the means to undertake flexi pipelay work, crane-based construction, maintenance and installation tasks, ROV support and subsea maintenance and installation, and umbilical pipelaying preparation. Tools of the trade include the portside-mounted 250t offshore/subsea pedestal crane, 35t deck crane and ROV hangar. The dynamic positioning system meets Class III criteria.
