Having bumped along at a relatively stable level for many years, the sudden spurt in growth in the size and numbers of gas carriers recently has been quite astounding and has brought many technological advances and challenges. The largest ship now under construction will carry almost twice the volume of cargo of a standard ship of five years ago, surpassing the 50% growth in the largest ship size seen in the second half of last year.
