Dutch company Netherlocks has launched a new device to lock hand-wheel-type valves. Known as SHL (Smart Handwheel Lock), it can be easily fitted like a simple lock-out device to any size or type of handwheel-operated valve. Unlike traditional valve locks that have to be tailor-made for each location, installation of SHL requires no valve details, extra parts or customised adaptors. SHI locks the wheel into pre-set, safe positions controlled by the interlocking key release mechanism. The device attaches to the valve stem beneath the wheel without the need to replace or alter the valve assembly. Even with the lock attached there is still space to grip the handwheel. The manufacturer says that this feature makes it easier to provide interlocking for handwheel valves simply, securely and safely. The lock can be fitted while the valve is in operation.
