Early July saw the naming and delivery ceremony of Nova Era, MOL's second 300,000dwt iron ore carrier, at Universal Shipbuilding's Ariake shipyard, Japan. The 327m loa and 55m beam vessel which has a draught of 21m, will sail under a long-term contract with JFE Steel Corp, transporting iron ore mainly from Brazil to Villanueva in the Philippines. The port, near the southern city of Cagayan de Oro, on Mindanao, is operated exclusively for JFE Steel's sintered ore production subsidiary, Philippine Sinter Corporation (PSC).
