A consortium of companies, including cruise line P&O Princess Cruises, is due to begin trials in July of the prototype of a unique piece of technology that, it is hoped, will enable larger passenger vessels to manoeuvre safely and efficiently in ports and harbours. The trials are the result of two and a half years of a project going under the unwieldy title of the Simulation Environment and Advisory System for On-Board Help and Estimation of Manoeuvring Performance During Design project. Small wonder then that the project partners refer to it as SEA-AHED.
