Norwegian marine technology and automation specialist Kongsberg believes there will be a significant shift from land-based production to the ocean as resources are harvested from the ocean floor and aqua culture. That will provide opportunities for new vessel types. When Kongsberg closes on its acquisition of Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine, the merged companies will create a technological behemoth that its Norwegian principals are confident can enter new markets and develop existing ones. In an interview with Fairplay, KongsbergCEO and president Geir Haøy said that digitalisation and automation are areas that the newly merged organisation will be developing, while the company is also looking to expand its offshore operations - including a move into what it believes will be the growing aquaculture industry. "We believe there is an ocean of opportunities," said Haøy, asserting that "oceans will be more important in the future than they are today".
