After years of decline, Germany'shull and machinery (H&M) insurance market has seen some stabilisation, with the number of oceangoing vessels under its claims lead rising. The positive trend is borne out by the latest statistics from the Association of Hanseatic Marine Insurers (VHT), which acts as central claims handler for the German market. Its data for the year 2017 show a rise of about 100 insured seagoing ships to a total of 1,543 under its watch."The market's shrinkage appears to have stopped; that's the most important thing for us," explained VHT chairman Hans-Christoph Enge, managing partner of Bremen-based marine underwriter Lampe & Schwartze.
