摘要

Followingthe success of first joint search and rescue (S&R) exercise in the Arctic region, the eight countries involved are hopeful that continued tests and co-operative measures will be taken to enhance vessel and seafarer safety and security. The objective of the exercise, which was called Arctic Guardian 2017 and was held in Iceland in September 2017, was not only to test co-operation between the countries' S&R units and services but also to test their communication and information exchange capabilities. The countries involved in the exercise - Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States - make up the Arctic Council, and are all part of the Arctic Coast Guard Forum (ACGF), established in 2015 to strengthen co-operation in the region.
