Saudi Ports Authority figures have indicated that transhipment traffic rose 10 times faster than general throughput in 2016. Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP) performed particularly strongly, which masked falls in national import-export results. Saudi transhipment was up 13.8% at the two west coast ports of JIP and King Abdullah Port (KAP). But throughput countrywide rose a modest 1.4%, as low oil prices continued to slow Saudi economic activity.
