Since the introduction of a ban on the use of the organotin tributyltin (TBT) and other organotins - compounds based on tin with hydrocarbon substituents - as biocides in marine paints in 2008, TBT's derivative, dibutyltin (DBT), is being increasingly used in foul release coatings (FRCs), according to a confidential report seen by Fairplay.
