India has emerged as an important destination for seaborne US ethane exports, with Reliance Industries' fleet of very large ethane carriers (VLECs) entering service this year. Data from IHS Markitshows Europe and the Indian subcontinent as having the greatest import potential for ethane. For US seaborne exports, imports to India have the greater tonne-mile demand due to the longer distance. Despite that, the viability of seaborne US ethane exports to Asia remains dependent on economics, and that is currently justified by low ethane prices which have come under pressure from ample US supplies of natural gas liquids.
