摘要

The Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications (AAWA) initiative is an EUR6.6 million (USD7.5 million) project funded by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. Rauli Hulkkonen, chief adviser at Tekes, has described the project as "a fantastic opportunity to establish the Finnish maritime cluster as the world leader in maritime remote-control technology." It brings together a group of top academic researchers from Finland, as well as from leading maritime organisations such as NAPA, Deltama-rin, DNV GL, and Inmarsat, but AAWA is being led by UK company Rolls-Royce. Due to run until the end of 2017, it will explore the economic, social, legal, regulatory, and technological factors that need to be addressed to make autonomous ships a reality.
