Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit has put down a new marker for the yard industry with the delivery of a dedicated cement carrier powered by dual-fuel machinery. The 7,300 dwt Greenland is the world's first dry bulk vessel with a propulsion system fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). It incorporates a pressurised LNG tank integrated inside the hull rather than on deck. Completed for JT Cement, the joint venture of Swedish shipowner Erik Thun and the Norwegian company KG Jebsen Cement, Greenland has been built and engineered primarily for employment in the Baltic and northern Europe.
