An upturn for the dry bulk sector has been forecast in the fourth quarter of every year since 2009; every year, corporate statements, business analysts, and journalists have been wrong. I have done it myself, although with diminishing levels of confidence. As 2015 progressed, it became increasingly certain that 2016 would offer little positive sentiment. Within the very first week of this year, industry executives and analysts appear to have lost belief that freight rates will cover costs for the foreseeable future.
