In July last year, Port of Antwerp announced that it was setting up a task force dedicated to the One Belt One Road (OBOR) project to help it achieve its aim of establishing itself as a key maritime and overland transport hub on the westernmost edge of the belt. This move fits into a strategy that the port launched 10 years ago, in which it has made considerable progress. Its 3015 traffic figures were particularly striking as total cargo throughput rose to more than 200 million tonnes for the first time. Container traffic increased by 7.5% to 9.65 million teu while that of its leading competitors fell.
