The value of a stock is supposed to be driven by the intrinsic value of the business, but many believe this relationship has become unhinged for public shipping companies. If so, how should executives manage in the best interests of their shareholders? "From a stock perspective, what we've seen is that value is completely unimportant," said Stifel analyst Ben Nolan during last month's Capital Link New York Maritime Forum. "If there isn't some element of momentum, it has either been 'dead money' or stocks have continued to fall."
