During its first year of operation, QinetiQ IMCS Business Unit managed to sail through the perfect storm for the maritime industry (global economy slow-down, falling oil prices and the oversupply of ships in certain sectors). With a purposely recruited team of experienced professionals coming from the commercial sector, QinetiQ worked on proposing a pragmatic approach to efficiency: minimising costs, maximising revenue and managing useful data. With technology in its DNA, QinetiQ's approach is underpinned by the ability to understand the real potential and associated risks of adopting new technologies for solving old and new problems. Access to QinetiQ's vast knowledge in specific fields like robotics and materials allowed the team to successfully deliver a thorough technology audit of the feasibility of an innovative drilling system.
