Hyundai Glovis started out as the logistics arm of Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) in 2001, but the company has branched into oil tankers and dry bulk carriers - and is planning further expansion. Since it began its shipping business in 2008, Hyundai Glovis has consistently increased its fleet in an effort to boost its competitiveness. Although markets remain challenging, the company told IHS Maritime it planned to expand its fleet further by adding bulk carriers, car carriers, and very large crude carriers (VLCCs). "We secured our first VLCC last year," said a company official. "We hope to expand our presence in the wet bulk shipping market." This ambitious plan is possible thanks to strong financial performance. Hyundai Glovis recently posted record annual sales: KRW13.922 trillion (USD12.7 billion) in full-year 2014, an 8.2% increase compared with 2013.
