The Port of Boston wants to use the next three years to step out of the shadow of New York and attract bigger container ships with more direct services from Asia and Europe. Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) is looking to achieve this through a USD300 million harbour deepening programme. The scheme will deepen the port's north entrance channel from 13.7 to 15.5 m, the main channel from 12.2 to 14.3 m, and the berth at its Conley container terminal from 13.7 to 15.2 m.
