P&O Cruises latest vessel, Britannia, made its maiden voyage from Southampton to the Mediterranean on 14 March. The 144,000 gt vessel is the largest ship tailored for the UK cruise market and is the newest addition to Carnival Corporation's P&O Cruises. Britannia was built by Fincantieri's Monfalcone yard on the same technical platform as Royal Princess and Regal Princess, which were delivered to Carnival's Princess Cruises in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Emblazoned with the UK national flag, all aspects of the ship have been developed to meet British tastes and are substantially different from Carnival's other cruise liners. "Britannia will be the embodiment of contemporary Britain," said Carnival UK chairman David Dingle.
