"Never in our wildest dreams, back in July 2014, would we have predicted the magnitude and sustainability of the tanker rate upside," commented Evercore ISI analyst Jon Chappell in a new sector outlook. Middle East Gulf-Asia VLCC rates topped USD91,000/day in mid-July, a new high for 2015. "In the middle of one of the historically weakest periods of the calendar, tanker rates - both crude and product - are continuing to significantly exceed expectations," said Chappell.
